Mississippi oyster season to open October 1
BILOXI, Miss. – The 2026 – 2027 Mississippi Oyster Season will open for the harvest of oysters, beginning at legal sunrise on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Hours for October harvest of oysters are legal sunrise until check-out at 12 p.m. The harvest of oysters will be closed on Sundays.
The approved and conditionally approved areas are:
- Area I “B” This area includes St. Joe reefs
- Area II “B,” This area includes Waveland and St. Stanislaus reefs (tonging only)
- Area II “E” This area includes Henderson Point reefs
- Area V “A” This area includes Biloxi Bay Reef (tonging only)
The 2026-2027 Mississippi Oyster Season will open to harvest provided they meet all criteria for opening as specified in Title 22 – Mississippi Department of Marine Resources – Part 1 Rules and Regulations for Molluscan Shellfish Related Activities.
Daily harvest limits will be set at 15 sacks per resident commercial tonging vessel and 20 sacks per commercial oyster dredging vessel per day. All recreational harvest is limited to three sacks per licensed resident individual per seven day period.
For nonresident commercial tonging limits, licensed nonresident vessels are held to the tonging sack limit of their home state or the Mississippi resident tonging limit of 15 sacks, whichever is lower.
After checking in, harvesters may launch from a remote site, but only south of the CSX Railroad bridges, and must return to the same check station by the most direct route before check-out.
