The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) has initiated the process of identifying 101 eligible census tracts for Governor Tate Reeves' consideration as potential nominees to the U.S. Department of the Treasury as part of the next round of Opportunity Zone designations. These designations, which encourage long‑term private investment in economically distressed communities, will take effect on January 1, 2027, and remain active for 10 years.

MDA is now accepting public comments to help evaluate and prioritize eligible areas. Input from local governments, economic development organizations, business leaders and community partners will play an important role in shaping the state’s recommendations.

Public input sessions will begin in April.
